It doesn’t mean anything, and it definitely wasn’t a scientific survey, but more than 88 percent of the people who voted in the U.S. News & World Report poll on the flat tax vs. the current system chose my side of the debate.
To be sure, a dead skunk in the road would beat the current tax system, so I’m not letting this go to my head.

“I’m not letting this go to my head.”
That’s wise. Not only is the poll not scientific, but your opponent’s argument wasn’t exactly stellar. It amounted to a laundry list of good reasons to eliminate entitlements.
My favorite: “[Wage earners have] paid double taxes since 1935. Why should income from owning financial assets be treated differently…?”
Which is a little like a gang of thugs saying, “We already steal from your home every day… Why object if we steal from your business, too?”
