I sometime joke that 1913 was a horrible year since that’s when the income tax was imposed (some also point to the creation of the Federal Reserve that same year).
But if human suffering is our guide, 1917 is the worst year because of the Bolshevik revolution that created the Soviet Union and unleashed the menace of communism.
To commemorate the horror triggered by that event, here are my 2017 columns on 100 years of communism.
- We started at the end of October by looking at the 100 million victims of communist butchery.
- On November 5, we looked at the moral blindness of communist apologists.
- On November 7, we reviewed the silver lining of anti-communist humor, augmented the following January (twice), as well as in March and May (twice).
- On November 9, we examined how some economists were reprehensibly clueless about communism.
- On November 14, we considered the economic challenges of nations escaping communist tyranny.
- On November 19, we analyzed the ongoing horror of North Korea’s brutal regime.
- On December 9, we concluded with a look at the death cult of Che Guevara.
