I try not to spend too much time complaining about media bias, mostly because it doesn’t do any good.
But I have had a couple of posts about the topic, usually when there’s a hopelessly outrageous example on an issue I care about.
- That’s why I complained about an ABC report about Mitt Romney and tax havens.
- It’s why I groused about a Reuters report that presumed Obama’s spending plans created jobs.
- And it’s why I nailed the Washington Post for using “slash” to describe a tiny reduction in the growth of spending.
I’ve also had a few posts where I hit the media for mistakes that probably don’t represent overt bias, but instead reflect no knowledge of economics and/or a cloistered worldview.
- This New York Times report about government freebies being costless.
- This distorted story, also from the New York Times, about tax reform and loopholes.
- A report from the EU Observer about which Greek political parties are against bailouts.
- And this story from the Associated Press about Social Security’s finances.
Now we can add another example to the list. But it definitely belongs in the first group, because this is clear, blatant, and deliberate bias. I’m talking, of course, about ABC News and its reprehensible decision to smear a member of the Tea Party simply because he had the same name as the Colorado killer.
The obvious question to ask is why the reporter who did the smear, Brian Ross, hasn’t been fired. But not just Brian Ross. The axe should fall on anyone involved in the ideologically biased and legally reckless decision to speculate that a 52-year old Hispanic Tea Party member was responsible for the Colorado shooting
Here’s a good cartoon from the Hope-n-Change website, which has an amusing collection of anti-Obama cartoons. This does capture the mentality of the establishment media.
P.S. Here’s another cartoon about media bias that is definitely worth sharing.
P.P.S. I get irked whenever anybody refers to the big networks and newspapers as the “mainstream press.” That’s a horribly misguided term, considering how far left they are. The Tea Party is much closer to the mainstream than those clowns. That’s why they should be called the “establishment press.”

Does anyone at ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC have a lick of common sense, decency, or integrity? I don’t believe so. I do not like lawyers or lawsuits, but ABC and Bryan Ross should both be sued into bankruptcy by the other Mr. Holmes and the Tea Party. I am tired of hearing lies by them andthe President, and liberal socialists. None of them has an iota of leadership or integrity.
There are at least 3 things that I don’t understand about America:
1. why you spend so much on medical care, in spite of a relatively free market;
2. why your academics are so enamored of the State, when most of your best universities are private institutions;
3. why your media is so statist, when they receive no state subsidies.
Of course I can think of a few ad hoc explanations for each item, but I cannot persuade even myself that I have found the true explanation.
BTW I dislike the expression “media bias”: I prefer to think of it as the media trying to frame the narrative.
That’s why I read this blog, and others: to escape from the ruling class narrative.
With respect to a accurate label that describes 99% of our Media Press, I disagree with your suggestions as being benign,bland and decidedly inaccurate.
The only thing that has saved “mankind” is the Internet which has introduced a competitive alternate and partly Fox News. Fox News is not a right wing news organization. They still have a “Large” number of Liberal and radical Journalist reporters.
Our Media / Press and Media have been anti-capitalist, anti-business, anti-Christian, anti-Republican and anti-Conservative since before WW II and in the last 40 years we should add anti-American.
They long ago flushed the Journalism creed down the toilet. They have been engaging in Journalistic malfeasance. Their reporting is far beyond being biased.
A accurate definitive label would be Our Anti-American Marxist / Socialist Media / Press..
If we provided them with a Mission Statement it would be similar to that of radical Islam.
The mission of our anti-American Socialist / Marxist Media / Press is to completely destroy and annihilate Christians and Conservatives as a voice in society or the political spectrum.
Only they would call themselves “main stream” press. They should be referred to as the “lame stream” press.
I pray his lawsuit against ABC funds his Tea Party efforts in Colorado. And maybe a school for young conservative journalists.
The Soviets got by with just ONE establishment outlet. Obama is doing like the cereal companies, filling up the shelf with rebadged versions if the some thing while the healthy stuff only gets one slot.
