There are no simple answers to Islamist terrorism, particularly when individual nutjobs are determined to kill a bunch of innocent people.
But I know that some answers to the problem are wrong. So when politicians like Hillary Clinton say we should have more gun control, I side with police chiefs who recognize that an armed citizenry is a much more effective approach.
Simply stated, we’re dealing with evil people who want to maximize death, so they pick out places where they are less likely to encounter armed resistance.
The European response to terrorism is especially insipid. Law-abiding people are disarmed while terrorists have no problems obtaining all the guns they need.
Which leads to terrible consequences with tragic regularity.
I’m not sure how to categorize this sarcastic look at how Europe responds to a terror attack compared to how Texas responds, but it does make the key point that it’s better to shoot back than die meekly.
Consider this the terrorism version of the joke comparing how the governors of Texas and California respond to a coyote attack.
Though this is a deadly serious issue, not a joking matter.
P.S. If you want some genuine terror-related humor, look at the bottom of this post.
P.P.S. And if you want something truly pathetic, look at how statists try to rationalize terrorism.

“In May, Abu Henricki, a Canadian citizen of Trinidadian origin, told researchers with the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism that ISIS sought to recruit him and others to penetrate the US-Mexican border through routes originating in various Central American locations…. Other Trinidadians, he said, were also being approached to “do the same thing.”
“The idea that Islamic terror groups are operating in Mexico and eyeing—and exploiting—the porous US-Mexico border is not a hypothetical; unfortunately, it appears to be a fact. At least 15—though likely many more—suspected terrorists have already been apprehended crossing the border since 2001. One suspected terrorist who crossed the border, an ISIS supporter, already launched a terrorist attack in Canada that nearly killed five people.”
“The only question left is how much more evidence, and how many more attacks—and with what greater severity—are needed before this problem is addressed?”

Hey, how’s that “Texas Cycle” going? Very sad event that occurred today. However, you gotta realize that a few people with pistols don’t stand a chance to terrorists with automatic weapons.

The other problem with statists is their collective ignorance of history.

[…] Unsurprisingly, folks in Texas are smarter than Europeans about responding to terror […]
it seems some Europeans have an aversion to allowing their citizens to defend themselves as well…

and the total dollar cost of “terrorism” since 9-11 would be…………………. what?
This is probably a politically incorrect time to point out these facts, however,
terrorism is indeed a big deal, but it must also be put into perspective.
Today around 3,500 people were killed in the world — In normal traffic accidents. So did yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that. So will tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow and the day after that.
Coercive collectivism probably kills even more people every day by virtue of the downward equality, shorter life spans, and overall missed prosperity it creates. Just think how many lives will be lost if collectivism holds back capitalism (by even a single year) from discovering the cure for cancer.
You are ten times more likely to die behind the wheel in Argentina today (once one of the most prosperous countries in the world whose coercive collectivism dwarfed growth) than in Switzerland whose voters shunned coercive collectivism.
Chances are overwhelmingly in favor of a cure for cancer being invented, developed, and brought to market in a capitalist country.
So while terrorism is a big deal, I refuse to fall for that much sensationalism. At current levels, terrorism is not the problem it’s hyped up to be. Yes, I understand the potential…
———————–
That being said, I think my statist twin brother here sees a very big problem:
He thinks we need more truck control. Don’t those things cause global warming anyway? There’s more at stake here than a mere hundred lives.
Do you use trucks? I don’t either! So let’s ban them, we won’t be affected much!
Tell you what? Let’s start small. Let’s form a coalition and first ban big white trucks; they seem to be most used in terrorist attacks. Their owners are bound to be a minority anyway — we’ll do them in easily. Then we’ll gradually move in on the rest. Until we have finally a truckless society. Only the government will have trucks.
it will be interesting to see how republican politicians address the issue of terrorism next week… it seems future months will present challenges from both Islamic jihadists and disaffected black Americans… it is unfortunate but we have no choice… we must neutralize domestic or foreign terrorist threats wherever we find them… we must secure our borders… and if we are attacked use all means necessary… to kill enemy combatants… and protect our citizens… from further harm… no apologies… no hesitations… no warnings………. and no regrets…
if Hillary Clinton is elected to the presidency… I suspect that the same cultural Marxism that spawned political correctness will continue to be the touchstone of the federal government…. their flawed narrative will rule our justice department… our security procedures and our military… and this bogus philosophy will continue to exploit the politics of division… if we put aside ideologues… and discard Utopian ideals in favor of ruthless pragmatism… we have a chance… we can minimize acts of violence….. we can rebuild our middle class… reform our educational system… and heal the divisions of identity politics… the jihadists who torture and mutilate their victims simply because they are Non-Muslims … will fall… if we stay focused… accept that it’s time to reclaim the American character… reclaim our freedom… and fight……………. we can win…
The problem with your graphic is the arrow going from “Clean guns & stock ammo for next fools” to “Terror attack.” Cleaning guns and stocking ammo does not LEAD to the next terror attack.
However, in the top portion of the graphic, “Life goes back to normal” DOES INDEED lead to the next attack. Because they have proven that they will do nothing when attacked.
