It’s easy to get discouraged if you believe in small government and individual liberty.
It seems that the burden of the public sector is always expanding and that politicians and bureaucrats are always figuring out new ways to restrict our freedoms.
But let’s not lose hope.
We still have a lot of economic liberty, particularly if you count non-fiscal policy factors.
And we still have the Second Amendment.
Heck, we don’t just have the right to keep and bear arms, we exercise that right in massive numbers.
Take a look at this impressive graphic. We’re #1 in some bad ways, but it seems we’re also #1 in a very good way.
Make sure to share this graphic with your statist friends and colleagues. It’s guaranteed to put them in a glum mood for the rest of the day!
And when you share this with your misguided acquaintances, ask them why guns don’t cause murder in nations such as Switzerland and Finland. Maybe you’ll have a breakthrough and they’ll confess that gun control isn’t the solution.
Incidentally, in addition to having lots of guns in America, we also are quite ready to defy the government if politicians try to take them away.
What’s happening in Connecticut is merely one example of this wonderful form of civil disobedience.
Since we’re on the topic of gun ownership vs. gun control, here’s another image that will cause heartburn for your leftist friends.
Same theme as the 4th image in this post.
And let’s not forget the best-ever poster on gun control.
Last but not least, here’s a poster sent to me by the PotL.
It’s the same message found at the top of this post and at the bottom of this post.

An added important aspect is that if you are a senior citizen, travel insurance regarding pensioners is something you should make sure you really take into
account. The elderly you are, greater at risk you happen to be for having something undesirable happen to you
while in most foreign countries. If you are certainly not covered by a number of comprehensive insurance coverage, you
could have some serious troubles. Thanks for

speaking of erroneous graphics…
“Bloomberg Group Ad Reveals Its Ignorance of Guns
“You fear what you do not understand.”
http://www.truthrevolt.org/news/bloomberg-group-ad-reveals-its-ignorance-guns
For those of us who are serious about a future with our rights intact, I think our time would be better spent on mature discussions with people who can be reasoned with, not erroneous graphics designed to annoy but not persuade. Whenever juvenile childish arguments are started or joined, the rest of us just have that much more work to do to turn the discussion into something useful. So, having said that… time to turn my attention to something more useful.
men in uniform… in a government chain of command are responsible for the vast majority of firearms deaths that have occurred on the planet… they are far more dangerous than a homeowner with a home defense shotgun… a firearm is an individual’s last defense against evil… and anyone who believes that giving up firearms… and the right to personal defense will make the country safer is a fool…
the idea that our political leaders are more “sane” and capable than the average the American is nonsense…
just look at the events of the last decade… does anyone really believe that our government as it is currently constituted is sane? that our political leadership truly has our best interests at heart? somewhere between 200k and 600k Iraqi men… women… and children died the Iraq war… millions more were displaced… thousands of American military personnel are dead as well… largely because of a whizzing contest between the Iraqi and American leadership… “weapons of mass destruction indeed…” sane?
we are regularly lied to by our government… propaganda… in the form of “spin” is the order of the day… these folks are nuts… power crazed lunatics… and we should surrender our fate and the fate of the people we love to a misguided statist agenda? give up our right to arms… the right to defend our homes and communities?
not likely….
Someone said this on here “By the way, I’m British. In the UK not even the police carry guns. Britain doesn’t resemble Nazi Germany.”..I say to you good then stay there…the United States was built on Guns that is what gave us our freedom from the British until the Federal Reserve Banking Cartel took over.
The only ones upset, frustrated and disgusted are the ones whos rights are being threatened by those who want to take them away and those trying to take those rights should be disgusted. The ones being juvenile are the ones using whatever “facts” they want to make up to try and force their beliefs down our throats and take away our Constitutional rights. So yeah, they deserve a little taunting as far as I am concerned. Though this a completely serious matter as it pertains to our rights which are being stripped away at an alarming rate.
TK, take it as written. I am commenting on the authors need (via the title) to taunt left wing/liberal people. As a person who supports all rights, I have no such need, desire, wish, to upset people, only to educate those do not support one or more rights as to the needs and use and intention of those rights, I feel it is a juvenile mindset that does wish to annoy solely for the purpose of annoyance.
Has anyone ever given consideration to a well regulated militia might just be the purpose of the citizens right to keep and bear arms. Meaning the people with guns is what keeps the militia (or government) regulated (in control). The event in Nevada for example.
I’m a proud NRA member but find this article completely lacking.
Gun ownership rates in countries where military service is conscripted is in no way relevant to the discussion of gun laws in the U.S.
Novos, Patrick Dowling, TCJ & ZD – good points. I agree, there are plenty of guns “out there” that have been gifted, won in raffles, inherited, etc & are simply “undocumented” – to borrow a favored word from certain Leftist. Indeed, why on earth SHOULD any branch of government, no matter how small, know what anyone owns? seriously – why is it ANY business of ANY branch of govt to know what Joe Average owns or what Jane Average carries in her purse??? That’s not a rhetorical question. Since when is it government’s function to keep us safe from each other??? no – it’s government’s function to make treaties with OTHER NATIONS & to facilitate (make easier) the transaction of business between the various States of the Union. But … protect us from ourselves??? ‘scuse me, I dunno ’bout leftist mamas, but MY mama didn’t raise a helpless idjit.
& yes, a lot of people simply do not admit they have guns. Not even their insurance company knows – or will ever know, unless & until it comes time to file a claim for some sad reason. The leftist media have created an environment wherein it is dangerous to admit to being a gun owner. This will – in the end- work against them, in making it very hard for them to find the gun owners. HAH. silly leftists! brains are for conservatives!
Dachia, exact quote: So, apparently anybody who believes in Rights has some sophomoric need to frustrate, upset, disgust or taunt those that don’t?
How is one supposed to take that? Please explain…
The left paints america as the wild wild west, when that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The truth is Americans own over 300 million guns and only around 30,000 people die from guns each year. Less than 10,000 are murders and such. The others are in defense and justified. Illegal guns arent even counted in this count either. So, one of you smart liberals work me up some math statistic that shows how less than 10,000 compared to over 300 million legal guns and probably 20 million illegal guns makes the US such a deadly wild wild west crazy shoot em up country. Seems to me even 30,000 compared to around 350 million is a rather small and almost immeasurable number, am I right? How do you smart guys not slap yourselves for being so ignorant?
“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
Paul, the point about militias in the 2nd Amendment was simply a justifying preamble to crux: “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”. The 2nd Amendment does not in any way indicate the right to bear arms is solely for the purpose of being in a militia. The current, philosophically balanced, Supreme Court recently ruled on that exact point.
@Paul. Your facts are a bit off. The militia is defined as follows:
“Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom?
Congress shall have no power to disarm the militia.Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an
American …
The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or
state governments, but where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the People.”– Tench Coxe, 1788.
Or:
“Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared
to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic
purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice
for that freedom.”
— John F. Kennedy
Read more at: http://www.awrm.org/mission.htm
BTW, a “well-regulated” militia means that they are properly equipped. It does NOT mean that they are under governmental control.
all of your data is slightly skewed. I know of no person with a brain who lives in a large metro area, with gun control. who would admit to owning a weapon to a poll. Yes, most gun owners own more than one weapon, if they can afford it.
The numbers are off as well, since there are millions of unregistered and unaccounted for weapons out there. The number of guns to population is closer to a two to one ratio, if anyone was willing to admit that. I am aware of a number of guns brought back by returning military that have never been on the books.
as for a wild west mentality, amen. as a famous actor once said, you will pry my gun from my dead cold hand before i will surrender it.
Looks to me like the people have spoken!
“the Second Amendment” asserts that you have a right to a well regulated militia, and militia is defined clearly enough in the first and second articles to make clear that the militia is supposed to be under the thorough control of Congress and the president. It doesn’t have a jot to say about owning a gun while not being a member of the government’s militia.
So the 2nd amendment needs to be corrected.
And, yes, the statistics cited by Gunmate for the USA are GROSSLY misleading. The conclusion warranted by the claim of 279m guns for 313.9m people is that there are 0.89 guns per person. Many Americans, however, own a small arsenal of guns, so it’s probable that there is much less than “88.8% gun ownership”. It stands to reason that our Gunmate was similarly dishonest when calculating “gun ownership” for other countries, too.
God, Guts, and Guns made us free and a great nation. I live in a pro-gun area where my family, friends and I can target practice, compete, and go hunting. With increased proficiency comes the basic concept of responsibility and ability to defend myself, my family, my friends, my community, and my nation. Controlling and eliminating criminals is more intelligent than controlling and eradication of firearms. If you have a mad dog chasing or attacking kids or livestock we don’t ask why or rehabilitate-we just shoot them and eliminate the problem.
If you don’t like guns… don’t buy one.
steve morris is an idiot, a liar or both
ZD, at least you accept facts with reasoning and common sense which is more than you can say about most other knee jerked leftist who want to band the tool for the actions of a few. I agree we need better mental health care facilities and harder punishment for criminals.
Venezuela has about 30 million people and has the highest gun related deaths per 100000 people
Brazil has a population of 201,032,714 as of 2013 but has a homicide rate greater than Nigeria and in fact the US homicide rate is nothing compared to Brazil.
There are by various estimates anywhere from 270 million to 310 million guns in the United States. In 2010, 11,078 homicides were committed using a gun so using the 310 million number for the most amount of gun in the US vs homicides in the US using guns.
That comes out to .00357% of the guns in the US were used to commit murder and the other 99.99643% of guns were not used to commit murder
So go on about your business, you have 99.99643% chance of “NOT” being murdered by a gun in the US today.
INNOCENTS BETRAYED: THE TRUE STORY OF GUN CONTROL
The above DOCUMENTARY says it all!
One good thing,s about a gun it let,s defend ourself and size, sex or age don,t matter. And a bullet a lot faster then what the cop,s could get their to help.
Before you take this graphic at face value, actually google the gun laws of each country listed. For example, switzerland has bullet control and finland has alot of regulations to go through to get a gun and they can be be revoked. You also cant carry them around in public. They actually have common sense rules. But this graphic wont tell you that.
Ridiculous to say that 88.8% of USA citizens own guns. Who made that graphic, and what’s wrong with them?
If you are going to use lies to try and convince people, you’re already losing. What kind of people lie to the population to try and move their politics forward?
I’m one of those “Leftists” that your childish post is attacking. I don’t like guns. I won’t deny it. I am, however, a realist, in the sense that I know that taking guns away from people will do nothing to stop crime from happening.
The biggest issue, in my opinion, isn’t gun ownership or guns in general. It is the deplorable lack of mental health care available in the USA. There should be screenings when you get your drivers license to determine your mental state, and every couple years.
People are going crazy in this country, and guns just make it easier to kill large amounts of people in a short time. But the guns are just a tool, the real problem is the crazies. We need to get these people screened and either medicated, or put into institutions if they’re too far gone.
@ Steve Morris, you said
“I’m a die-hard libertarian, but if there’s one thing that needs to be regulated by the state it’s the right to carry lethal weapons.”
Sir, that is one of the Biggest contradicting statements I have ever heard.
Please don’t fool yourself into thinking you are a “Die Hard libertarian”
You are FAR From being a “Libertarian”.
When you make a statement such as “one thing that needs to be regulated by the state it’s the right to carry lethal weapons” you are doing Nothing but promoting the Leftist Liberal agenda.
Libertarians (Die Hard Libertarians, such as myself) believe that everyone should do what ever it is that floats their boat, as long as it doesn’t sink my ship. Libertarians do not believe in intruding on any other law abiding legal American citizens rights. but in YOUR OWN WORDS, You Do!
You need to stay over on the left that is exactly were folks of your mindset belong.
I’m a 72 year old happy gun owner, and also think Piers Morgen is a jerk. CNN set that right when they let him go. I think gun ownership is what keeps america free.
If you don’t like the crime rate with guns. Then arrest the criminals and keep them off the street….What a concept you pathetic liberal/communist douchebags. Semper Fi
74 million of the 313 million in America are children bringing population down to 240 million so gun ownership is over 100 percent. nice facts try again

Complete BS. Gun ownership by household is somewhere around 40-45%. Gun ownership per capita is more like 33%. The people who like guns normally own several, and in many households that have guns only the male actually owns them. The majority of urban and suburban households don’t have guns, and those are the majority of the population and have been for decades.

I have a graphic on my garage door that says “Anyone found here at night will be found here in the morning”
I have three adult sons and between the four of us we may have as many as 25 or 30 guns of all types. I think the number of guns in the United States easily out number the number of citizens in our population. I know between me and my sons, we have over 100,000 rounds of various types of ammunition. And I know also know there are people who have lots of guns of various types that are not registered to their current owners if at all.
When Prince Charles was a lad, royal fox hunts were common. Im sure he misses them.

Ask Yamamoto Why The Japanese never invaded the U.S. Mainland, “Behind every blade of grass is an American with a Rifle”
FINLAND: Firearms can only be obtained with an acquisition license, which can be applied for at the local police for a fee. A separate license is required for each individual firearm. The number of firearms a person can own is not limited in any way. With the primary licensee’s consent, parallel licenses to his firearms can be granted to other persons. According to law, the firearms must be stored in a locked space or otherwise locked,
Switzerland: To purchase a firearm in a commercial shop, one needs to have a Waffenerwerbsschein (weapon acquisition permit). A permit allows the purchase of three firearms. Everyone over the age of 18 who is not psychiatrically disqualified (such as having had a history of endangering his own life or the lives of others) or identified as posing security problems, and who has a clean criminal record (requires a Criminal Records Bureau check) can request such a permit.[9][better source needed]
To buy a gun from an individual, no permit is needed, but the seller is expected to establish a reasonable certainty that the purchaser will fulfill the above-mentioned conditions (usually done through a Criminal Records Bureau check). The participants in such a transaction are required to prepare a written contract detailing the identities of both vendor and purchaser, the weapon’s type, manufacturer, and serial number. The law requires the written contract to be kept for ten years by the buyer and seller. The seller is also required to see some official ID from the purchaser, for such sales are only allowed to Swiss nationals and foreigners with a valid residence permit, with the exception of those foreigners that come from certain countries (Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Albania, Algeria), to whom such sales are not allowed even if they do have a residence permit. Foreigners without a residence permit must ask for Waffenerwerbsschein (weapon acquisition permit).[
Sweden The gun license is obtained from the Police, and one must be in good standing and at least 18 years old, but exceptions regarding age can be made. To apply one must either be a member in an approved shooting club for at least six months or pass a hunting examination (jägarexamen). The former is mostly used to legally acquire pistols for sport shooting and the latter for hunting rifles and shotguns. A gun registered for sport-shooting may not be used in hunting. You are allowed to hunt without passing a hunting exam if you are chaperoned by someone that has passed the exam. The minimum age for taking a hunting exam is 15 years. A person under 18 years may not own a firearm him- or herself, unless an exception have been made. A person with a gun license may legally under supervision lend his or her gun to a person at least 15 years and older.
Some facts that were left out
When someone points to the high homicide rates using guns in the USA and says that we are one of the most violent countries, have them eliminate the number of gun homicides and the population numbers for Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., and New Orleans. By eliminating the statistics of the cities with the strictest gun control the USA then has only three countries with lower rates of homicide. .First, when they claim that you’re wrong you can tell them to do the math for themselves. That will keep them busy for a short time. Then, when they see that it is true they will keep rerunning the numbers to see why and be too busy to bother you for a long time.
video showed female police officer in london subway carrying an HKMP-5 submachine gun when the man was gunned down running for subway. Next every military age man in Switzerland and Isreal have fully automatic weapons in the closet waiting for callout. they have almost no gun crimes in either country because criminals know the public is armed. Third point ,we kill 40,000 people a year in U.S. in car accidents and a third of those are from drunk drivers.
England does not have many guns but they do have a property crime rate that is 5 times ours, because they know that no one has a gun.
KPO…feel free to leave with piers morgan
The idea that it is one person, one gun is incorrect in the US.. Most hunters will have multiple firearms such as a shotgun, a rifle, a handgun and a 22 rim fire.
drowning is the leading cause of death in children, and car accidents for adults. lets outlaw water and cars.
They are not assault weapons. They are CIVIL DEFENSE weapons. KPO, you need to go back to england,

Why is it, there are voices that want to ban the second amendment ?
facts are facts deal with it.
Guns are for law enforcement and the military only. There is no right to a gun.
It may depress Liberal friends, but Liberals are NOT leftists. Liberals are, in fact, very right wing. A leftist believes in self rule and no laws, so everyone is allowed to own weapons for defense against those who want to rule them. Liberals love passing nanny laws and give big brother more power while taking it away from the people. This, by definition, is right wing. Republicans are right wing as well. We have no leftist party in the US.
Dear Mr. Steve Morris, Thanks to a bunch of Americans carrying guns to help bail your asses out of (2) World Wars, You’re still speaking English instead of German.
Sure about 88% of Americans are armed. They forget to take into account that the 88% usually have multiple firearms, more than enough to arm the other 12%.
marc……Those records have only been kept since Brady, Nobody knows how many guns there are floating around America but I would wager it’s well over a billion.
Dachia, anybody who believes in rights?? Really?? Are you saying you dont? If you dont believe in rights, especially our Constitutional rights, than you should be disgusted and what is frustrating is people who think that others shouldnt have their God given rights. Ben, I am sure facts are annoying to you considering you have yours wrong. Latest polls show around 37% of Americans own guns and I am sure that increasing everyday.
God bless those gun toting Americans they are the saviors of democracy.
Steve Morris. Get the fuck out of here and go back to your shitty island with your girlfriend Piers. You are not welcome here.
I don’t care what some guy from the UK thinks about US gun ownership policy. It isn’t any of his damned business. We left that shithole because we didn’t believe in bowing and scraping to royalty. Gun ownership is a right, not a privilege that government can take away. If you don’t like our country and the Second Amendment, take your ass back to Britain. Say Hi to Prince Charles for me.
Its a realy good thing that my aim with a fire arme is better than my typing.
(spoken and have)
I wonder how the governments raid on the Nevada rancher last week would have turned out if just the government owned firearms?…Our government here in the America is to big and corrupt to be trusted with firearms!
My son does background checks for Cabelas firearms department in their Connecticut store, they sell 400 to 550 firearms per week just in that one store! From what I’m finding out that’s considered light on sales! I own 19 firearms myself, from hunting rifles and shotguns to collectable handguns!
Errin: Sence 2009 here in Az the amount of firearmes and ammo sales has risen by about 35% and is holding steady to day 2014. From the dealers that I haave soken with the amount of ammo for all firearmes ranges in the trillion number mark that is in privet hands of the american people.
I would point out that The Guardian having to partner with American newspapers and set up shop here just to continue reporting on the Snowden stories is proof of an out of control police state where the government has way too much power. The Guardian explicitly said that they had to come to America because the British government just marched in and started trashing computers and taking what they wanted.
That is why we have both a first and a second amendment. Madison specifically said in Federalist 46 that the European governments did not trust their people with arms which is why they have tyranny – which is the whole point of the second amendment. Not counting wars, nation states murdered over 200 million of its own people in the last century!
As far as gun crime percentages, basically 4% of the nation’s demographics commit 54% of the murders every year. That happens to be the same demographic that the government has “helped” in large inner cities (where guns are usually illegal) with its mandatory awful government school system, welfare state that has destroyed families, and the drug war. It is also why the combination of several rural midwestern states has a lower murder rate than places like Chicago.
It is a not a coincidence that most of the strongest proponents of the NSA spying on the entire nation and the drone program like Feinstein or Obama or Bloomberg are also proponents of disarming the public. As Nevada just showed, it is just a tiny bit more difficult to bully and intimidate an armed public than a disarmed one.
The only thing sure is who ever wins, they will have guns.
@steve morris…you sound like the human excrement piers morgan. big difference between you brits across the stinkin pond is we are not subjects aka subjugated, we are the whole sentence and we make a point.
Gun ownership is less than 30% in this country. Christ.
We ALSO have a high violent crime rate; BUT it is LOWER where people can defend themselves, although the major media seldom reports THIS use of firearms, partly because NOBODY got shot!
First they register, then they regulate, then they restrict, then they confiscate!
Fact: In 1994, before the Federal “assault weapons ban,” you were eleven (11) times more likely to be beaten to death than to be killed by an “assault weapon.”
Fact: Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year or 6,849 every day. Often the gun is never fired and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.
Fact: Every year, people in the United States use guns to defend themselves against criminals an estimated 2,500,000 times – more than 6,500 people a day, or once every 13 seconds. Of these instances, 15.6% of the people using firearms defensively stated that they “almost certainly” saved their lives by doing so.
Fact: 54% of these deaths are suicides (80% in Canada). Numerous studies have shown that the presence or absence of a firearm does not change the overall (i.e., gun plus non-gun) suicide rate.
Fact: Guns are used for self-defense 2,500,000 times a year in the United States.
• 71% of gunshot victims had previous arrest records.
• 64% had been convicted of a crime.
• Each had an average of 11 prior arrests.62,63
• 63% of victims have criminal histories and 73% of the time they know their assailant (twice as often as victims without criminal histories).
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. Subsequently, from 1915 to 1917, 1.5-million Armenians, deprived of the means to defend themselves, were rounded up and killed.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. Then, from 1929 to 1953, approximately 20-millon dissidents were rounded up and killed.
In 1938 Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945 over 13-million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, mentally ill, union leaders, Catholics and others, unable to fire a shot in protest, were rounded up and killed.
In 1935, China established gun control. Subsequently, between 1948 and 1952, over 20-million dissidents were rounded up and killed.
In 1956, Cambodia enshrined gun control. In just two years (1975-1977) over one million “educated” people were rounded up and killed.
In 1964, Guatemala locked in gun control. From 1964 to 1981, over 100,000 Mayan Indians were rounded up and killed as a result of their inability to defend themselves.
In 1970, Uganda embraced gun control. Over the next nine years over 300,000 Christians were rounded up and killed.
Over 56-million people have died because of gun control in the last century.
“Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic, purely symbolic move… Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation.” – Charles Krauthammer Syndicated Columnist The Washington Post, April 5, 1996

If Brits were allowed to carry, I’ll bet that poor kid wouldn’t have had his head cut off in broad daylight, while the citizens just stood there…..because they really couldn’t stop it, now could they?
And not one single person in North Korea owns a gun. When that changes they’ll have a democracy and the government will be run by the people instead of an evil dictator.

ASDF: The rates are unacceptable. But they’re not going to be solved by gun control. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. And it also has one of the highest murder rates. If you’re looking at lawful gun ownership as a cause of murder rates, you’re looking in the completely wrong place.
I just bought another pistol Thursday. Why, you ask. Because I can!
It is rather sad that the author of this article takes pleasure in poking fun at people who are trying to stop the crime epidemic in the US. The murder rates in this country are absolutely unacceptable. They are nothing to poke fun at.
UHHH. I think they are so far off with the # of guns in U.S that it is not even funny. Ruger just had an anniversary on a firearm that has only been out for a couple years & has exceeded over 1 million. I would go as far as saying there are citizens have over 3 to 5 billion guns in U.S.
The graphic is incorrect. 88.8% gun ownership means that 88.8% of the citizens own guns… It does not mean that you take the total amount of guns purchased and then divide by the number of civilians. So, quite frankly, whoever made the graphic doesn’t understand number or is purposefully being misleading.
There is also two ways to look at the issue of banning guns: oppressive regimes and countries such as Japan. In general, countries that have banned guns altogether are either oppressive regimes or the safest countries in the world (such as Japan). What does that mean? I’m not sure but I am tired of the right pointing one way and the left pointing the other.
In short, I am asking people not to post on the left or the right these type of things – because most often they are misleading and BS. (BTW- I don’t feel strongly either way on this topic – I grew up in a house with guns and hunting)
The number 279 million guns is no longer accurate; the number is now 310 million guns owned by civilians in the USA.
@Steve Morris. Do you know why the Japanese never intended to invade the US in WW2. A famous Japanese General stated that “invading the US mainland would be suicide because there was a gun behind every blade of grass”. Don’t use Britain as an example because if it wasn’t for the US you would be marching goose step and speaking German. Also you might want to keep an eye on the Muslims, they may not carry a gun with them but I guarantee you they will or now have access to plenty of firearms and other articles designed for warfare. Also if you are a diehard libertarian you would acknowledge the 2nd amendment of OUR constitution, not Britain’s!

Early into the Second World War, Britain begged American civilians to send England their private firearms. the British have conveniently forgotten this.
You’re right, Steve. The UK doesn’t necessarily resemble Nazi Germany. When British soldiers like Lee Rigby are flayed by Muslim extremists on a public street in broad daylight while people watch helplessly, it is closer to resembling Egypt or Syria. And you’re wrong about all British cops being unarmed. They only show up armed AFTER someone is killed, as was the case here. Real effective.

Steve Morris…BS…I travel to England frequently and the authorities there do carry guns. Just not openly like they do in America. You keep that Piers Morgan krap in England while enjoying the minority infestation your government has allowed to happen.
London police do carry guns. As for Britain not resembling Nazi Germany… neither did Nazi Germany until it did. It’s perfectly safe for only the government to have guns if your government is benign. The problem is, once the government becomes the only entity with guns, there’s just no way to guarantee it stays benign. And Britain is the exception…. not the rule. Government, throughout history, has been the single biggest killer of human beings… and most of those murderous governments had guns but didn’t allow their citizens to have them.
So, apparently anybody who believes in Rights has some sophomoric need to frustrate, upset, disgust or taunt those that don’t? And what was the point of the graphic? What useful information could we conclude from that? It simply says we have a lot of guns. It does lead the reader to believe, erroneously, that most gun-owners have one gun and so therefore 88% of the country owns a gun. Not true, and also unimportant. If you want to create a useful graphic, perhaps one that shows that countries with FEWER guns on average than the USA have higher murder rates, or something to that effect. The people (not the politicians) who are in favor of gun-control, are so because they believe we are safer without them. THAT is what we need to continuously address, in a mature manner.
Ross Kaminsky’s comment. Graphic is not misleading. It shows 279 millions guns to the population of 313.9 million. What do you not understand?
Britain isn’t a German state thanks to the U.S.
Who wants to be ahead of Iraq and Serbia? I’m a die-hard libertarian, but if there’s one thing that needs to be regulated by the state it’s the right to carry lethal weapons.
By the way, I’m British. In the UK not even the police carry guns. Britain doesn’t resemble Nazi Germany.
Unfortunately the graphic is rather misleading. My guess is that it’s far more likely for an American gun owner to own multiple guns than for gun owners in those other countries, or more generally that the average number of guns owned by an American gun owner is higher than the average number owned in other countries. Therefore, the number of guns in the US divided by the number of people does not give you anything close to the actual distribution of guns, whereas the same math for countries where more people own just one gun would give you closer to the true distribution.
