I hope my car doesn’t break down anytime soon. I’ve already sworn I will never buy a car from General Motors or Chrysler, and now I have to add Mercedes-Benz to my personal boycott list.
Maybe I’m being naively dogmatic, but I refuse to patronize a company that uses a mass murdering communist and racist like Che Guevera as a marketing ploy.
It’s not like I would ever spend a lot of money for a car anyhow, but even if somebody deposits $10 million in my bank account, you can rest assured that I won’t be cruising around town in the MB Guevera C230, the MB Hitler E350, or the MB Mao GL450.
Michael Gonzalez of the Heritage Foundation says it much better than I can.
There’s something about Che Guevara that convinces older European men that they will become cooler through association with his “brand.” We saw that again yesterday when Mercedes-Benz Chairman Dieter Zetsche launched a new car under a banner picture of Guevara. …Che Guevara, not to put too fine a point on it, was a psychopath whose sadistic lust for blood was not easily quenched. He killed for pleasure. He had, moreover, little time for youthful rebellion and none at all for individualism. Lastly, Che Guevara was a racist who specifically held blacks in contempt. I think about this often when I see deluded young African-Americans wearing a t-shirt with his likeness. But a German born a handful of years after 1945 really ought to have known better. Much has been written about how Guevara executed men and boys in prison in the early revolutionary years in Cuba, disposing of such bourgeois niceties as trials. …Speaking of blacks he said: “The ***** is indolent and lazy, and spends his money on frivolities, whereas the European is forward-looking, organized and intelligent.” Yes, quite a model that Che Guevara. You’d buy a car from him, wouldn’t you? What will Mercedes-Benz come up with next? The Baader-Mienhof super coupe?
Almost exactly one year ago, the Baltimore Symphony used the Hammer and Sickle emblem of the Soviet Union to promote an event. That was disgusting, but at least the event involved the work of a Soviet-era composer.
Mercedes-Benz, by contrast, is using the image Che Guevera because the amoral executives of the company think this will help sell cars to an amoral public.
Please don’t buy anything from a company with that cavalier attitude about human decency.

This gives me an IDEA, Have Charlie Manson pitch Chevy Volts for Government Motors! The leftys can be mean, green and burnt up.
Its not like MB has much of a reputation to lose when it comes to kissing up to socialist murderers. Didn’t they make staff cars for the Nazis?
I want a Malcolm X mobile.
Oh, Lord, won’t you buy me a Merchedes-Benz…
I never cared much for a Mercedes and never owned one, though I understand why some people do – however, for some reason, I’m not offended by the “Che” add. They are a private company and they can do what they want.

I do though find the add comical. Fantasy ads aside, in the real world, when I think of the “Che Car” this the reality symbol that comes to mind:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaporozhets
This is what Che’s followers manufactured and some even had the privilege to drive, so long as they offered back five years worth of (pretend)work to the community AND the community approved the car purchase. http://www.econedlink.org/lessons/projector.php?lid=176&type=educator
Somehow, the image of the womanizer Che rolling down the window while driving one of those and uttering something along the lines of a macho “Hey Baby wanna come in read some Engels” seems rather comical.
Perhaps someone can photoshop Che in the Zaporozets uttering something along these lines and juxtapose communist reality with the fantasy of the Mercedes ad.
Jose Miguel wrote:

Jose Miguel…I hope you die a horrible and painful and extended death, you piece of shit.
When I bought a new car in 2006 I went for a Hyundai. It was at that time the most ruthlessly capitalist car company in the world. In 2010 they still held that title, so I traded up from an Elantra to a Sonata. I’m hoping to have enough money in 2014 for a Genesis. Union-busting capitalism never looked so good on the road!
During WW2 Mercedes,Bosch,AutoUnion(now Audi)Siemens and others used Jews as slave labor in their factories to make weapons and ammo. I would not buy a Japanese or German car(now buy Japanese as they are the best made).

Next time you wonder why they’re are refered to as sales weasels…..
Probably, they are trying to capture a “market niche” to sell the new MB-Car Model in this world with Moral disrupted and misunderstood. We, also, every four years, try to sell a candidate to the Presidency of the country that is able, for example, to take the (moral?) decision to invade Irak in the name of Moral and God.
We are living, Dan, in a mixture of Morality, Unmorality, and Amorality without any recognition among them. We need to re-dimensionate Western Society, we need to reach and embrace the Spirit of the Human Being…
Yes, I am agree with you that Ernesto “Che” Guevara was a maniac-fanatic-communist assassin, but a lot of wrong people still following his myth…
Looking too much into an innocuous ad stunt?
Everyone that Che Guevara executed was done in the same way any other country would have done it during a war, and there was a war occuring–the Cuban Revolution. Also all of the people he ousted and sent to Miami were the ones who kept slavery alive in Cuba until 1898 and then sharecropping until the 1950s, the people who lost, the people who were tried, the people who were exiled, were all deserving.
Please tell us what value this type of blog post provides? You used to post some good thoughts regarding the economy & the govt’s role. But now, it appears that you’re whining about anything & everything. Annoyance has reached its peak.
Deep politics aside, does Mercedes really want to associate it’s image with a tired-out pop icon ? Not very bright.

Darn, and I just bought a roll of Che Guevera toilet paper. Now I feel ashamed.
Many years ago, I decided I would never buy a car from Chrysler!
Why financially support those whose ideas (ideals?) are so diametrically opposed to your own…
