I’ve commented on the TSA’s incompetence in previous posts.
I’ve also shared some horror stories about TSA abuse.
And I’ve posted many jokes about the Keystone Cops of airport security (for more laughs, see this, this, this, and this).
But this graphic, sent to me by Tony Shin, is a superb visual display of what the TSA really means.

All of this underscores why the private sector would do a better job.
Unfortunately, the Obama White House seems more interested in using airport security as an opportunity to expand the universe of unionized bureaucrats.
And to make matters worse, it’s very distressing that the ideologues in the Obama Administration are trying to reverse the very successful policy of arming pilots (many of whom are former military).
Remember, this poster sums up everything that happens in Washington.

One statistic missing from this graphic: Number of attempted terrorist attacks prevented by the TSA. I believe that number is zero. So cost per terrorist attack prevented: infinity dollars.

Missing from the short list of dumb confiscations is a tube of personal lubricant, originally 7 oz. but nearly empty and rolled up to the last inch. It was confiscated because the tube was too large!

Granted that the TSA has evolved into an economically inefficient and top heavy bureaucracy. However, reverting back to the days when private firms handled screenings would be a terrorist’s best ally. As it was up to 9/11, private security firms handled most screening duties with the notoriety of lacking due diligence in checking the backgrounds of who they hired for the job. It was a low margin, low bid, low ball, high turnover minimum wage world that employed transients, addicts, nutjobs and assorted reprobates and in some cases even felons to what is supposed to be front line of defense for the flying public. Imagine how easy this would be for infiltration.
No, it does mention that 200 TSA employees have been caught stealing. This is a great poster! Everyone needs to see this.
One thing they failed to mention was THEFT by TSA. A friend’s father smokes really expensive cigars. He takes a box in his luggage for a flight from New Jersey to Texas to see his son. He arrives in Texas but the cigars don’t. TSA baggage checkers steal his $100 plus box of cigars.

TSA ranks 3rd in government waste, right after the white house and congress. I just retired because of waste and the fat cat FSD’s and their airport administrations creating their little empires. The TSa screeners are not the problem, they’re only allowed to do what they’re told. In the beginning of TSA, people were hired with backgrounds in security. But not today, for the most part the adminirttations are made up of transfers from other government departments and their frienfs. It should be privatizef.privatized
