I’ve written about how statist policies help the rich and hurt the poor.
And I’ve also pontificated on the destructive and foolish subsidies dispensed by the execrable Department of Agriculture.
Now let’s mix those two issues (though I hasten to add that this isn’t like math…two negatives don’t make a positive.
Here’s an infographic from the American Enterprise Institute showing how farm programs are a (yet another) perverse example of poor-to-rich redistribution.
I particularly like the part about 42 cents of administrative cost to give away 90 cents of other people’s money.
Actually, let me rephrase. I’m horrified and upset that we have this horrible system, so I only “like” that part of the infographic in the sense that it’s an effective way of showing the inefficiency, venality, and stupidity of government redistribution programs.
And don’t forget that if it’s bad to redistribute from rich to poor, it’s downright evil and despicable to redistribute from poor to rich.
P.S. On a different topic, I can’t resist sharing a few excerpts from a story out of Missouri.
Lobbyists who have sex with a Missouri lawmaker or a member of a lawmaker’s staff would have to disclose it to the Missouri Ethics Commission under a bill introduced Wednesday in the Missouri House. …sexual relations would have to be included on monthly lobbyist gift disclosure forms.
And you thought this cartoon was merely satirical.

[…] left-wing fiscal, regulatory, and monetary policies actually harm the poor and help the rich, and I augmented that analysis earlier this year by showing how farm policies line the pockets of upper-income […]
that said… I know a man who farms… he is in total agreement with Dr. Mitchell’s take on the farm bill… with one exception… crop insurance… this fellow is not a corporate farmer… but more than the operator of a family farm.. he farms several hundred acres in the Midwest… corn and soy beans… almost all of his operation is row-crop… truth is he needs crop insurance… his livelihood and that of his family depends on the weather… and as Al Gore { esteemed inventor of the internet…} has pointed out… climate change is a reality… the burning question is whether-or-not that change is a natural part of the planet’s evolution… or the product of evil industrialized capitalism as progressives and worshipers of the ancient Greek deity “Gaia” claim …
to a man who farms the land… it doesn’t matter… he spends untold amounts of money each year in order to plant his crops… if the weather is not conducive to plant growth… everything he has worked for his entire life can be destroyed in one or two planting seasons… considering the contribution that American farmers make to the welfare of the country… and the money democrats and republicans whizz away each year on unnecessary wars… registering model airplanes and spying on the American people… crop insurance is a hell of a bargain…..,. even if bureaucratic bumbling wastes .42 cents of every dollar spent…
a scam??…….. modern government?……………
say it ain’t so jay………………………………
I wonder if the 42 cents includes the administrative costs at the IRS to collect the tax dollars required to fund this program. But even assuming that it does, if it was discovered that a private charity spent 42 cents on administrative and fund raising costs for every 90 cents they spent helping poor people, i.e. 32% of their income going to fund raising and administration, I think watchdog groups would be putting out warnings about them. They might even find themselves investigated as a possible scam.
