Since I view Ronald Reagan as an honorary libertarian, I was very happy back in 2013 to see that he won a landslide victory over Barack Obama in a hypothetical poll.
This meant that voters either were old enough to personally experience the benefits of Reaganomics, or they managed to learn some history (in spite of a biased education establishment).
Well, now I have another reason to be happy. According to a new poll shared by Paul Bedard of the Washington Examiner, nearly 70 percent of respondents have a favorable impression of Reagan, easily the best result for all recent presidents.
Reagan also is disliked by the smallest percentage of respondents, a fact that almost surely irks some of my Reagan-hating friends.
And definitely irks Paul Krugman.
My two cents for today is that the current fight between Trumpism and establishment Republicanism is merely stylistic. If you crunch the numbers, you’ll see that both camps are big spenders.
Let’s wrap up with this cartoon strip that captures my sentiments.
P.S. Here’s an amusing story from Reagan about socialism (h/t: Don Boudreaux).
Not quite as good as this video, and it’s not even good enough to get added to this collection of Reagan videos, but it is a good description of why socialism is a failure.
P.S. There was one other president in the 20th century who deserves praise and applause.

Do you know who did the poll or where it came from?
I’ll grant that Ronald Regan is the best President in recent history, but viewing him as an honorary libertarian is a bit too much. Reagan escalated the war on drugs, and he increased the size and scope of government. Just say no to making Reagan an honorary libertarian.
If you put these presidents in order of those that got both “Very” and “somewhat” favorable, George H W Bush actually finishes second overall. The Poll would be:
Reagan: 69%
HW Bush: 62%
Obama: 59%
GW Bush: 57%
Clinton: 56%
Carter: 50%
Trump: 50%
Biden: 44%
I;m surprised That W and Trump both did as well as they did, as Liberals outright hate those guys
I read the Coolidge autobio. He was way more LP than Fuhrer Bert Hoover, Warren Gamaliel or Woodrow, but lost to Cleveland. Frankly, before there was an LP there were only Bastiat, Mencken Spooner as far as I know.
I voted Gipper after a communist anarchist assured me his Libertarian party was for unilateral disarmament and preemptive surrender to Soviets. I did vote a couple of down-ballot libertarians. I used to vote a couple of down-ballot republicans but the GOP today is 100% girl-bullying national socialists. LP for me.

As far as Coolidge is concerned, read his autobiography. He was FAR from being Libertarian. A few select quotes can’t tell the whole story.
