Like beauty, socialism is in the eye of the beholder.
- The technical definition of socialism is an economic system based on government ownership, central planning, and price controls).
- The commonplace definition of socialism is an economic system with a bigger welfare state financed by lots of class-warfare taxes.
In either case, though, you get ugly results. You’ll wind up somewhere between Venezuela and Greece.
But we’re not going to add to the already voluminous research on the failures of socialism in today’s column. Instead, we’re going to laugh at this evil ideology.
For starters, I shared a satirical video in 2018 that showed the nations where socialism doesn’t work. This Amy Coney Barrett meme takes the reverse approach. It lists the examples of where socialism is successful.
Next, we have some mockery of some protesters who mistakenly think big government is how you save the planet.
Last but not least, here’s some helpful advice for vapid millennials.
To be fair, you can see someone who became rich from socialism if you scroll to the bottom of this column.
P.S. You can enjoy the entire collection of socialism and communism humor by clicking here.

Hi Ian Here is another joke. Hope you find it as amusing as I did the Trump one.
Incidentally, the photo you sent of George was a beauty. He was a great fellow, a dry sense of humour, very much the retired digger. He fought the Germans in the middle East (in the form of the Vichy French, aged only 18 ) then our troops were called back to defend Australia when the Japs started to invade and he fought the Japs in NG. He was a mechanic-driver, often in danger from Japanese air attack (machine gun strafing) aimed at trenches and vehicles, including trucks. He had bladder cancer, probably from chemicals used in war service. It responded to radiotherapy which kept it at bay for many years but he succumbed when it returned.
He never complained, but had bad nerves from his war service. I was also fond of Frank, who was good to me when I lived on the farm, but Frank had not been through the same hard experiences as Geiorge. He made surgical instruments during the war – was in a “protected” industry. He was a very skilled tradesman. I was proud of both of them. We are lucky to have had such people in Australia. We can be really proud of our history. All the Parr family were fine people. They had a tough life. Grandma Parr used to drive me each day from the farm to Merrimac school and back. She kept chooks, and baked sponge cakes, which sold to Cecil Carey the grocer who had a small supermarket at the end of the main street in Southport. Later the Gubbins family lived in that area and Bill and his sister Pam probably went to Merrimac school. Bill (senior) and Doris worked really hard on their dairy farm near Merrimac , as did Grandad and Grandma Parr at Carrara. It’s funny how Pam cut off contact. Doris did something similar, for no apparent reason. See what memories your photo brought back! Many thanks.
Very best wishes and love from your brother, Rod

Socialism is actually a secular but religious-like ideology that the socialist or someone they believe in knows what’s best for The People or for Society. Gaining government power is a way of forcing this belief on others in various ways.
