I’ve shared a nightmarish flowchart to show the Byzantine complexity of America’s healthcare system under Obamacare. Sort of makes you wonder whether the healthcare system will now be more complicated than the internal revenue code.
But some people may be skeptical because this flowchart was prepared by Republicans from the Joint Economic Committee.
Well, here’s a flowchart from the pro-Obamacare Washington Post, and it shows how just one small piece of the law will require complicated gymnastics.
It’s hard to feel anything but misery about this situation. The Obamacare taxes largely took effect earlier this year and a big chunk of the Obamacare spending starts next year.
So let’s with a great cartoon from Henry Payne showing the Secretary of Health and Human Service force-feeding Obamacare to states.
I would have replaced “states” with “patients,” but you get the point. We’re being saddled with a one-size-fits-all monstrosity that will cripple what little is left of a functioning marketplace for health care and health insurance.
Next we have a Lisa Benson cartoon, showing the very unhealthy meal we’re expected to digest. Where’s Mayor Bloomberg when we actually need him?!?
Both Benson and Payne were part of the political cartoonist contest, so you can see their best work by clicking here.
Last but not least, here’s Steven Breen’s take on the third birthday of Obamacare. As you can see, there’s not a lot to celebrate.
Indeed, this is a good opportunity to share my video explaining why Obamacare will be a budget buster.
P.S. Lawmakers did repeal one of Obamacare’s tax provisions, a 1099 reporting rule that would have buried everyone under a blizzard of paperwork (here’s the cartoon version of that issue). And the Democratic-controlled Senate recently voted 79-20 to repeal the medical devices tax. So there are small reasons for optimism. And I think the bulk of Obamacare spending could be repealed as part of a Medicaid block grant if and when Washington is controlled by lawmakers who are serious about addressing the entitlement crisis.

P.P.P.S. If you want to know how to restore a functioning market-based healthcare system, this video from Reason TV is must watching.

Here’s another question for you. Socialism is generally defined as the a political system in which the state owns the means of production. But it seems to me that what we have now, with the state owning a massive regulatory body while confiscating a very high percentage of profits, is almost worse than socialism. The politicians get most of the control and more than their fare share of profits, but are scot free of the consequences.
American healthcare has long existed in that no-man’s land between free market capitalism and socialism. Too regulated and intervened into by the collective for capitalism and free markets to function, yet, not regulated and constrained enough to avoid rent seeking and cronyism by various interest groups who can now steer central planning in their favor.
It is clear in what direction the American people have chosen (by virtue of their vote) to take American healthcare to escape this no-man’s land: Socialization. The path has been irreversibly set.
And the American people think that they will be able to introduce the effort-reward flattening incentives of socialized medicine, while increasing growth to match the worldwide five percent annual rate, and thus stave of decline. The frog voter-lemmings in the pot are becoming unconscious and are experiencing their pre-death hallucinations.
Through the pathetic hope that it will all just pass and that better times lay ahead, the western world is living through its decline. The People, the voter-lemmings have no one but themselves to blame.
Keep mobile.
One of the selling points of the ACA was the claim that it would pay for itself. Of course, we all know (and knew then) that was never true.
But, with every recision of a ACA “tax” this behemoth becomes even LESS “self supporting.” I hate the monstrosity, but the more the cost is camouflaged instead of open and obvious charges/fees/taxes/penalties felt in the pockets of health care/insurance consumers, the more difficult it will be to convince voters that its cost exceeds its benefits.
It’s bad enough that it calls for insurance premium subsidies for those earning up to 400% of the fed poverty line — it’s become a shell game: try to guess who’s paying how much for what!
