I spend much of my time focusing on the dangers of a bloated federal government. And if you’ve ever paid attention to the name of this blog, you know I have a special interest in monitoring the ill-advised actions of foreign governments.
But that doesn’t mean I have a Pollyanna view about state governments or local governments. Malfeasance, waste, abuse, fraud, and corruption exist at all levels of government and should be condemned at all levels of government.
And few governments are more deserving of our contempt at this moment in time than the state of North Carolina.
You’ll understand when you watch this video.
The folks at the Institute for Justice do a remarkable job, as you already know if you’ve seen these videos about their fights against the IRS, their battles in defense of property rights, and their campaign against abusive asset forfeiture policies.

“Where should we, as a society, draw the line where permitted speech is on one side, and forbidden speech is on the other? Should we even have that line? And should free speech be limited by things like trigger warnings and penalties for microaggressions? Greg Lukianoff, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, answers these questions and more.
one of the most despicable acts political censors commit is interfering with the free flow of ideas… particularly in educational institutions… accepted social values change over time… teachers should be able to explain the evolution of society and the changes in values and belief systems that occur to their students… without interference from political hacks…

There’s a Tea Party comet that’s going to make some dinosaurs extinct!
The dinosaur may still be restrained in this particular instance, as I have a hunch that on this particular issue “the majority” will probably side with the caveman.
But that is not the main issue…
The constitution exists to allow you to keep talking when the majority wants to silence you. Were it not to serve that purpose, a constitution would be more or less superfluous and obsolete in a democracy where laws are made by representatives elected by the people. Sadly, this superfluous constitution state is where things are headed.
So, in what is a classical death spiral of revenge regulation, what goes around will come around. You ban my caveman advice, they ban your yoga teacher, you ban their marriage, they ban your light bulb etc. etc. into serfdom.
P.S. I tried the caveman diet long before Mr. Cooksey, during my more athletic days, and I can testify that I never felt better. But that is not the point here. Or maybe that is a point too – great innovations, almost by definition, will come from places that the majority never expects. And an all controlling majority, with propensity to impose its democratic totalitarian plan, will never discover these innovations either. That is the decline of totalitarianism, whether implemented by kings, emperors, dictators, chancellors, general party secretaries, …or majorities. Traditionally laissez-faire Americans are now falling in the same trap of Democratic Totalitarianism. Their prosperity will inevitably follow. So go back into your shell and follow the Food Pyramid until the majority decides to update it. And don’t forget to drink your eight glasses of water per day, whether you are an Aleutian Eskimo or a lumberjack in New Guinea. Your dietician says so under the monopoly authority bestowed upon him by the collective.
