While I agree with the general message of the article, in our defense, DC metro also has the most educated workforce, a claim supported by published data. There may be a lot of bureaucrats and lobbyists in DC and its immediate suburbs, but strong defense R&D presence in VA and strong biomedical R&D presence in MD are the driving engines behind this regions economy as a whole.
