It is a left-over concept from FDR, and an absurd waste of the Labor Departement’s already bloated budget trying to enforce minimum wage and overtime laws. People are perfectly capable of determining how much they need to live on and how much they are willing to work for. Further, government does have a legitimate role in welfare programs, because we need safety nets in a civilized society – but no one with a straight face can say what we have or Europe has is a safety net any longer.
