In this interview for Newsmax TV, I was asked about the frontrunners for the GOP presidential race. As you can see, I bend over backwards to avoid being too mean to either Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich.
I do make a meaningless prediction that Paul Ryan or Marco Rubio would jump to the top of the polls if they entered the race (I think my prediction is correct, but there’s no chance of anyone entering the contest this late).
Last but not least, I briefly talk about the payroll tax fight and the prospects (or lack thereof) for real entitlement reform.
Dan, I know you think Ron Paul has no chance of winning, but I thought after your lauding of his stance on drug prohibition you might be reconsidering so I was sorry to see you not mention his name in answer to the dude’s question. Come on, he’s doing so well these days and he really is the best shot we libertarians have at changing the direction of this country. Sorry, I’m not trying to be one of those Ron Paul zealots and I definitely disagree with him on a couple of things, but we really ought to use this opportunity. Even if he loses, if he is runner up it will show the Republican party how important it is to woo libertarians.
Dan, I’m pretty disappointed that you mentioned people who definitely are not running, but ignored the reality of the Paul campaign. Whatever you think about his candidacy, to ignore the guy who is in second (or maybe higher) in the first two primaries, is weird. I’m certainly in the same camp with the first response, not a Paul zealot, but c’mon, why talk about people who aren’t even in it?
Hopefully, the lie that he is unelectable is one of those lib/prog lioes that they are hopuing to repeat often enough that it will be accetped as fact. Unclear if Newt and Romney can be straw dogs and deflect fire long enough that the progressive media (redundant?) runs out of time before they can muster a good anti-Paul campaign.
I am disappointed that you didn’t mention Congressman Paul at all. He has a great record and a true small government approach to the budget deficit problems.
Truly puzzling… I understand when MSM tries hard to pretend that RP does not exist, but why would Dan Mitchell do that???
I would rather see another Goldwater moment with RP and ideas of freedom receiving wide national audience, even at cost of 4 more years of Obama, then Mitt/Newt progressive republicans completely decimating all opposition to progressivism (if one of them manages to win national elections, which is also doubtful).
Dan Mitchell would be the ideal candidate!!!! Dan Mitchell for President!
