While Cameron is undoubtedly about bad policy, I do think this is good politics. Labour are the traditional left wing choice, but Labour have a big problem with competency (or a lack of it). The feeling is amongst many left-leaning people that Labour may be the party of the left, but they can't get anything done, or at least done right.

There's no danger of right-leaning people voting Labour, so Cameron knows he can lean left to capitalise on disenchanted Labour voters whilst keeping his rightist core.

Of course the reality is that whether Labour are incompetent or not, their policies are (and have been) just as disastrous as those of the Conservatives, and neither party is socially liberal. The British electorate have no decent choice that stands a chance of winning, and even when you look at the minor parties it's slim pickings.

I will vote for Brown, because a Tory government is a scary prospect. The reason Cameron is only 6 points ahead in the polls, when logic dictates that he should be at least in early double figures, is because England hasn't forgotten the misery caused by Thatcher and the last Tory government .
